1. Use DoView Visual Strategic Planning for your own internal planning
Use the DoView approach for your own Foundation or organisation's visual strategic planning and outcomes work. More.
2. Build a DoView model of the overall outcomes you are seeking with your funding
DoView is generic software and therefore you can use it to set out you high level outcomes in any logic model, theory of change, results chain or logframe format you wish. You could then highlight directly onto this DoView model the priority steps you particularly want to fund. This could be put up as a DoView HTML webpage model onto your website. Ore on one way to build a DoView model and information on building traditional logic models in DoView.
3. Build capacity amongst grantees in developing logic models, theories of change, results-chains and logframes
You can develop DoView templates showing the way you want your providers to set out their logic models, theories of change, results-chains and logframes. Then just make them available as HTML DoViews which grantees with copies of DoView can immediately download and complete. We may be able to develop DoView resources on how to build outcomes in the way you want them built for your grantees contact us here. (Note that free licenses can be made available for international development projects that cannot afford DoView).
4. Allow funding applicants to submit proposals in the form of a visual DoView
Applicants could submit their applications in the form of a DoView file showing what they are planning to do and how it links to the Foundation's priorities. The application template in the form of a DoView Template file could be downloadable from the Foundation's website from the HTML version of the DoView model. In practice, the linking would be more complex than this, but DoView software is designed to handle cross-page linking elegantly. Remember, with DoView, you can use any logic model, theory of change, results-map or logframe format you wish. Below is an example of only one approach.
The process is set out below.
5. Allow Grantees to submit monitoring and evaluation plans in the form of visual DoViews
If all of your funded projects have copies of DoView Software (free licenses can be made available for international development projects that cannot afford DoView) grantees can submit monitoring and evaluation plans in the form of a DoView visual M&E model. Check out an DoView evaluation plan template developed by an experienced evaluator and DoView user, or look at the screenshot below which shows a different example of a way of formating an evaluation plan.
Because DoView is generic software, you can design your monitoring and evaluation plan template in any way you like and distribute it to grantees using an HTML version of a DoView model. Such a standardized template using a visual monitoring and evaluation plan is a much faster way for your grantees to develop and submit monitoring and evaluation plans and makes it faster for you to review them.
6. Provide generic evidence-based DoView Templates which applicants can tweak as the basis for their proposals
Sometimes there are a number of different potential grantees in different locations applying for funding for similar programs. In such cases, the Foundation could develop a generic evidence-based DoView Template for the program. Grantees could download the DoView Template from the Foundation’s website and amend it to detail their application within the DoView file. This means that each potential grantee does not have to review the relevant reserach and identify evidence-based practice for their individual project.
7. Build a fully drill-downable HTML outcomes model of your outcomes and what you’re funding
If you build an outcomes model of what you are trying to achieve as a foundation or funder you can then get your funded projects to do something similar within DoView Software. It is easy to put up an HTML drill-downable visual model of your outcomes and this could click out to an HTML DoView model prepared by each of the projects you fund in any logic model, theory of change, results map or logframe format you wish. This is the ultimate in terms of transparency as it allows anyone to drill-down within the HTML DoView model from your high-level outcomes to see exactly what it is that is happening on the ground as a consequence of the funding you have provided to projects.
8. Remember that free copies of DoView licenses can be made available in Low and Medium Income Countries for development projects that cannot afford to buy it
To get DoView into the hands of development projects in Low and Medium Income Countries, the DoView Donor Scheme makes DoView license available for free to LMIC-based projects that cannot afford it.
